THe fishing has been excellnt with the big jig bite producing the biggest fish. on the afternoon of May 31st Rob Ard had an excellent big bite with his 5 biggest fish weighing 49.5 pounds and also catching 14 fish over 7 pounds

From John Velky group of 5

Terry, I just read the attached report and am compelled to reply. Not to be outdone, our group of five also had an awesome trip. We were very impressed with EVERYTHING about your operation, from the pre-trip communication and logistics to the trip itself. From the time we left El Paso on the charter flight, we were chaperoned and treated like welcome guests. Russ, Rene and all the lodge staff went out of their way to be accommodative. Our thanks to each and every one of them. As for the fishing, WOW! We each caught the biggest bass of our lives with at least 20 fish over ten pounds.

Tito Woodburn won the big bass pot with a 12.0 and everyone thought they had bigger bass break/pull off during the fight. We switched partners during our trip, but I mainly fished with Narlin, and he was terrific. Very knowledgeable and a joy to fish with. The other guides were Pedro and Mario, and they were outstanding, also. My only regret is that we did not bring more big black jigs, and they were sold out of them at the lodge. The trees and lake bottom must be littered with them. The bite was definitely with 1 oz and larger black jigs with huge senko/lizard/worm trailers, and we lost what we had early on. Rene showed me his favorite rig and I now know to bring reels spooled with 50# braid with a 50# mono tag end. You definitely lose fewer jigs with that combo! John Velky

From Gary Whitehead:

Morris and I had a great trip once again. We caught a total of 504 bass. I wear a little counter around my neck. We had 5 fish of 1-10lb 0oz,2 10lb
4oz, 1-11lb 2oz, 1-12lb 1oz. That means of course that we caught 5 bass of 10lbs or more. We had at least 4 others up to the boat that got off that were over 10lb fish. The service, the food, the boats and the guides were, as usual, just great. I hope that an opening during June develops but if it doesn't I will go back in the fall as soon as possible. WEW!!

Report the morning of Feb 21st...are you sitting down? 19 fishermen at the Lodge this morning and 19 fish over 10 pound....ok enough said!

Summary from Feb 11th to Feb 18th

The fishing at Baccaraac has been nothing short of phenomenal. Personally being on the water, I have witnessed without a doubt the best fishery in the world producing the world's best angling. The number of 10+ lb. fish caught is too numerous to list for the last week. Troy Wells from California caught 22 over 10lbs. during his stay at the lodge. Steve Thomas of Dallas went out and caught a 10+ lb. fish every session his four days of fishing. Gayle Vaught of Arkansas, on Valentine's Day morning, caught 19 fish over 9 lbs. Now that's a Happy Valentine's Day! Gary West reported his best fishing trip ever, with fish up to 12 lbs. caught on a regular basis this past week. We have been fishing anywhere from 5 feet of water to 35 feet of water. Trent Loukas of Amarillo, TX, landed a 10.6 lber inches off of the bank using a solid black jig with a black trailer. 1 oz. spinnerbaits bounced on the bottom in 30 feet of water produced not only numbers but quality fish. Right now, Lake Baccarac has it all. If you want numbers, go up the river and you will catch all the fish you want. If you want trophies, as you can tell, they aren't too hard to find.

More good news! Our five new rooms are complete and we have room at the lodge for more people for the rest of the season.

Short report .....fishing is excellent with 45 guests at the Lodge since last report and 18 fish over 10 pounds caught and posted on trophy board at Lodge .

From George Shwend: The fishing was hot as hell then cooled off a little with Eddie on the last day, but others had a big day when we struggled to find fish. Just shows you how guides have good days and bad, but not always because of the fish, but because their holes just aren’t producing. I’m not complaining, like I said I had a great time and a huge day on Friday. On Thursday (our first fishing day), Joe caught a 10’ 11’ fish that ended up winning our Big Fish Pool. He also had two 8’s and plenty of chucks. I caught fish also, but nothing to brag about. On day 2 I had a monster day with a 9.5. 9.25, 9.0, 8.5 and 8.0 to equal a 5 fish bag of 44.25 pounds! I also caught 3 7’s and more 6’s and 5’s then you can shake a stick at. It was by far my best day. I had caught the three 9’s by 8:30am. Eddie worked his ass off for us.

..Senko producing best size and numbers

From the Lodge: good fishing today the 8th and 9th with good numbers of fish being caught up the river. Some boats as little as 40 a day and others catching over 130 for the day. THe last couple of days has not produced anything over 10 pounds but lots of fish pushing the 10 pound mark, Good numberss of 5 to 6 pound bass being caught on Senkos and flukes.

THe water temp is now below 70 degrees

Jan10th from the Lodge: The cooler weather and water has slowed the big fish bite Rick Z did manage a 10.3 and Jin Daniel caught a 11.13 but overall the bigger fish have been few. Going up the river you can catch over 150 a day but most are small. Most guests are choosing to target the bigger fish spots. Flukes, senkos and floating worms....

Jan 13th from the Lodge Joe Buker caught a 11.13 on Sunday morning but more impressive was the 25 fish between 7.2 and 9.3 he caught on Senkos/yumdingers yesterday afternoon. The area near Papachaw seems to be holding the better bigger fish right now

Topwater still reported as slow and 1 oz rattletraps starting to pick up a few fish

We're back on the water after Christmas break with cooler water and cooler air temperatures and clear, blue skies. Most boats are reporting over 100 fish a day per boat, fish over 11 lbs. being caught on 9 inch swimbaits.
Topwater very slow the last couple of days but some really great spinnerbait action. Ramon, Chino and Mario are having the best results as guides this week. Remember, the weather is a little cooler so bring your hooded sweatshirts.

Good topwater fishing with numbers really picking up way up the river. Some boats catching way over 150 today in the river way past the cross. Dr Ronald Hopkins reporting fish up to 11 pounds on topwater reported a little slower action than last year but lots of bigger fish. George Winstead " great trip" " Ramon is an excellent guide" with lots a heavy bass on rattletraps Ben Todd reported good fish caught on Watermelon lizzards up to 9 pounds with numbers always over 75 per day for the boat
Just in from John Lange
I just returned from a six day trip with my 10 year old son, Brett, to Baccarac. We had a great trip and fished with a truly excellent guide, Enrique. He was a lot of fun, was very patient with Brett, and seemed to enjoy having in the boat and teaching him a lot about Mexican Bass fishing. We averaged 45 fish per day and saw many very large fish. My biggest was 12 and Brett's was 7. Enrique hooked an 8 for him to bring in which was pretty cool.
Gil Wright group of 6 on the 23rd caught 4 fish over over 10 pounds the first afternoon..Topwater ,,,,,The fishing has been all about location at the right time....

Mike Young Grp We fished mainly deep water looking for the big ones..and we found them total of 42 fish over 8 pounds with 6 fish over 10 pounds and 2 fish over 12 pounds. One in a lifetime trip that I will now be making 3 more times this season note: listen to your guide, they know the lake Chris Heppel grp of 6 our group of six fished last Wed.-Sat. (10/31-11/3).
Four of us caught our lifetime biggest largemouth--more than once! (My 8-4, 9-4 and 10-3 were all personal bests.) We landed four fish over 10 pounds, including a 13-2, a 10-3, and two 10-0's. We also caught four nine's, about the same number of eight's, and many seven pounders. We probably averaged around fifty bass per boat per day. (We had 100% sunshine the entire time we were there and would really liked to have seen how a little cloud cover might have affected the fishing.)
Our most effective baits were topwaters (poppers), and although the topwater fishing was best early and late, we were able to catch fish on the surface throughout the day. Big fish (9+) were also caught on fat free shad crankbaits (including the 13-2), 1 oz. spinnerbaits, and large (6") swim baits. The 10-3 was caught on a Devil's Horse (on Halloween!). Buzzbaits also produced, particularly late in the day.
Although we fished some plastics, including senkos and lizards, these baits did not seem to be as effective, particularly on larger fish. If I were going back tomorrow, I would try to be on the water in a prime topwater spot at first light with a large popper ready to go. Same exact tactic for the last 30 minutes of light before dinner. By the way, we had opportunities to fish with Rene', Sixto, Manuel, and
Pedro, and all were excellent.

After fishing 20 years in Mexico I finally broke the 10 pound mark. This
trip I caught 3 over 10 pounds and lost one that was a real gaint. ( at
least 13 plus ). While some other boats had a little topwater action we did
not. Caught our fish mostly on spinnerbaits 1 oz white made by Dick Pro
Style Lures. 2 out of the 3 days our boat caught 150 bass per day and on the third day we only caught 45 bass for the day. This was the best trip ever with tons of heavy fish
Report from BILL DOLL grp of 6
Another great trip to Baccarac!! I have fished this lake for a number of
years with this trip producing the least quantity, but largest fish. Our
group of six being conservative caught (50) 5 to 6#, (15) 7+#, (25) 8+, (10)
9+, (4) 10+, (2) 11+, a 12# & 12.2# with several anglers in our group new to
this. The fish were mostly in a neutral or negative feeding mood, which
required a " SLOW DOWN" presentation. Swimbaits and spinnerbaits were crawled along the bottom. The best spinnerbaits were 3/4oz. with a large single blade, gold or nickel in willow leaf or indiana profile which banged against the wire frame. If the topwater bite was slow, the wacky worm picked up the difference producing several grande. For some reason my 'go to' bait the lizard, did not produce very well, but that could change. The water temperature ranged from 78° in the morning to high of 82° and is slowly falling. I think as the water cools the topwater bite will explode because the bait fish do not yet need to warm up in the coves or shallow shorelines. Fishing Mexican lakes is a bit different than the U.S If you are going for the first time and want to catch a 'Grande', my suggestion is to listen to your guide's advice. They are very good at what they do. This is where I will continue chasing my 'Super Grande'. The food and accommodations as usual is very good. Have a great trip.

Food, service, guides and accommodations excellent as always. Our group of 5 caught on average 25 to 50 fish per day with the majority in the 4 to 5 pound range. Chapo Ulm caught the majority of the large fish with 4 over 10 pounds and several in the 6 to 8 pound range predominantly on topwater and 6" pearl swimbaits. Mike Powers nailed a fat 10.9 with a pearl fluke. Matt Brewer's large was an 8 with several in the 5 to 6 pound range. Joe Copeland worked on landing the grande but had to settle on a 7.1. Derek Krider had several in the 5 to 6 pound range and one 7.2. Each of us lost at least one large fish well into the double digit range. After polling several groups of anglers at the lodge, most large fish are being caught on 6" pearl swimbaits, 1 oz. rattle traps, topwater baits, 1 oz. spinner baits and large crankbaits. The lake dropped about 4 feet in the 3 days we fished. We are looking forward to returning in March. Topwater fishing was the most spectacular I have ever seen and it is only starting to heat up. Make sure to change out any small treble hooks with larger ones on your topwater baits as the grandes will pull free; I missed three lunkers on
topwater before swapping out with crankbait hooks.

I am a serious bass fisherman and I've been fishing in the north west US for 20+ years. My bass fishing goal has always been to catch the 'elusive' + 10 pounder. While on this trip, I exceeded that goal - more then I ever
imagined. I still can't believe it - but I caught a 10.4, 10.6, 10.14, 10.11, 11, 11.4, 11.14 and a 12.2!!! I know some people might doubt these weights, but the photos are my proof and they are hanging on Russ' lunker board in the tackle shop at the lodge. Most of the fish were suspended in 17 to 35 feet of water. We caught them on pearl swim baits and fat free citrus shad cranks. As our fishing days went on, the fish started moving to the banks and we were able to catch some 7's and 8's and one 10 pounder on top water super spooks. We didn't catch a huge # of fish. We averaged 25 to 35 fish a day. But when you got a bite, it was a BIG one. We had 21 seven pounders, 17 eight pounders, 15 nine pounders, 5 fish in the 10 pound range, 4 fish over 11pounds and the one 12 pounder! All I can say is you have a little piece of bass fishing heaven there!
Thanks again for a fabulous trip! I hope to see you again SOON!

Make sure to read the below report posted on the 16th of Oct
Mike Bradshaw's group of 6 in 4 days of fishing caught 23 bass over 10
pounds with Mike himself catching 11 of the total. Wally C a fireman from Az yesterday caught 6 bass over 10 pounds. All of the bigger fish are coming on swimbait and big spinnerbaits. Day one of the Bill Hicks Grp ( grp of 24 from Hobbs ) fishing the 18th ... The over all numbers of fish caught per boat was way down( some boats only recording 15 fish ) ...But the size was not. With 24 anglers on the water today a total of 16 bass over 10 pounds recorded ranging from 10.3 to 14.1. Russ Johnson also was on the water and reported 2 fish over 10 and breaking off on one that was a gaint. Russ has been fishing the deep structure on the south end of the Lake. Rene has been fishing up the river. All the big fish coming from deep water on swimbaits and slow rolling 1 oz spinnerbaits on the botto. So far the topwater bite has not been like last season......

Son OF Bass
Father/son group consisted of David Miller, Kyle Miller, Paul Miller, B.J.
Hacker, Michael Sestak, Jimmy Irish, Jim Irish and Jeff Irish.
October 11: B.J. had a 10.8; Jimmy a 10.11 and 10.2; and first timebass
fisherman, Paul, had a 10.2 and 10.9! The SOBs had 5 bass over 10 lbs; 3
nine pounders (two by David, one of which was 9.13); 7 eights; 7 sevens; 6
sixes; 8 fives; and 4 fours. About 130 total bass. October 12: Jim had a
12.4, the largest of the trip for the SOBs, and a 9.1; Jimmy had a 10.11;
Jeff had a 11.6 (next largest for trip); and Kyle had a 10.0 and 9.3. The
SOBs had 4 bass over 10 lbs; 2 nines; 7 eights; 14 sevens; 9 sixes; 5 fives;
and 9 fours. About 105 total bass.
October 13: Paul, Jim and Jeff each had 10 pounders, with a 10.5 for newbe
Paul; and another big niner for Michael. The SOBs had 3 bass over 10 lbs; 5
nines; 3 eights; 6 sevens; 8 fives; and 3 fours. About 50 bass.
For the three day trip, the SOBs had 39 fish over eight pounds with 12 fish
over ten pounds. They caught at least one ten pounder in each of the six
half day outings. Cranks and swimbaits caught most of the nines and tens,
with a few on big spinner baits. No large bass were caught on topwaters,
and the SOBs abandoned them after the first morning to focus on larger fish.
Only a few bass were caught on sinkos and lizards. Most of the larger bass
were caught on flats (20 feet plus or minus) next to deeper water, both in
the main lake and up the river channel. A few good fish were caught on
points, but they were usually the smaller four to seven pounders. The ratio
of big bass (over four pounds) caught to total bass caught was incredible
(30%, 50% and 60% for the three days). As the days passed, the group was
undoubtedly fishing more for larger bass and passing up top waters,
plastics, etc. The six, seven, and eight pound bass were extremely hard
fighters, usually more than the ten pounders. A large number of big fish
were hooked and lost, usually if an SOB couldn't keep them from jumping or
didn't get a good hook set! The weather was hot and humid, which made the
beer and margaritas taste even better. The lake was smooth and the boats
were trouble-free. The guides, food and Lodge hospitality were all
excellent

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a wonderful trip we had to Lake Baccarac Lodge.
Terry, Rene and all the staff just keep making this trip better and better.
The food was exceptional and the service was the same. Of course all of us
are there for the fishing and this trip was the best fishing that I have
ever had!!!!!!!!!! We only keep up with the big fish this time and here is
the count: 18 fish between 8 and 9lbs, 9 fish between 9 and 10lbs, 1 10.4
fish, 1 10.8 fish, and 1 13.1lb fish. The report from the lake said that I
caught a 13.4 and Tina Gilcrease the 13.1 but the reverse was the actual
truth!!!! Can you imagine that a gal that has only been fishing for bass
seriously about 2 years beat me with that 13.4!!!!! But she did. At one
place we fished for about 2 1/2 hours and caught many fish the smallest was
over 6lbs!!!!!!!! I just have never seen such a huge % of the fish caught
running over 6 lbs. Well I can't wait to get back for my next trip which is
Oct 15. By the way they told us there was no topwater bite yet but we
averaged 22 on top every morning early and the 10.8 was one of them.
Yesterday morning we lost at least 4 fish over 10 lbs on top and got 2 over
8 and one over 9 in the boat. I guess it is pretty obvious that I am pretty
pumped up about Baccarac and Terry's lodge.

Opening afternoon, Russ Johnson caught an 11.2 in Norte Canyon. All boats reported excellent fishing. Today, September 27, was a special day for the Bobby Knight group. Ross Jones caught an 11.5 and a 9.9. Also, he caught 30 fish between 7 and 8 lbs. Tim Knight landed an 11.12 and a 10.4. He reported that he caught more fish today than at all his previous trips combined to El Salto. Pat Knight's big fish of the day was a 10.2. Randy Farley caught a 10.2, a 10.0 and six fish over 8 lbs. Chris Cassidy caught an 11.2 and reported excellent, excellent fishing. Coach Knight didn't break the 10 lb. mark today, but we are confident he will tomorrow!
Sept 28th fishing: As a group the Knight group caught 8 more fish over 10
pounds. Tim Knight found one spot where he caught 23 bass over 6 pounds and 8 over 9 pounds Crankbaits, rattletraps and swimbaits are working up the river and in the small canyons near the lodge. Topwater is very slow. Zero topwater right now

We are normally closed during the rainy season but this season we have had a couple of groups. I just returned from the Lodge with a group of 4 Amigos from Texas. Big, Big rains and Lake Baccarac is coming very up very nicely .
The fishing could not have been any better with the fish very shallow
because of the rising water. Crazy Joe Dillard fished with me the fish day
and caught a 16.1 whose picture is already postd at the Lodge. The monster fish was caught in Sonny's cove in very shallow water. During the heavy, heavy rain the fish feed on the surafce. Tom Secrest caught a 15.2 fishing with Juan in the same cove. Dalton caught 4 fish over 9 near the Damn and Dee caught one over 10 and one over 11. These fish where caught the first day at the Lodge during the rain. The second day was also very good with tons of big fish. I rate the fishing right now as excellent. We are working hard getting the Lodge ready for the regular season kick off.

A short recap of the best fishing I have ever had and also a word of thanks to the staff at the Lodge. Before I say much more I will make this claim " Lake Baccarac is the best Lake in the world "
The private flight arrange for our group was first class and could not have
been better. We landed at Bacubirito at 2:10 before 3 pm I was on the water and within the first 10 minutes I caught a 15.6 that's right a fish over 15 pounds by 4 pm the rain was like a waterfall at the guide's request we
continued to fish near the Hotel. Using nothing but crankbaits I caught 4
more fish over 13 pounds. Our group of 7 anglers all had similar results
using everything from crankbaits to big spinnerbaits and big jigs. Just an
unreal trip. Over the next 1 ½ days we caught all classes of fish Huge to
small. The lake is alive with the best and toughest bass I have ever seen.

Reporting from the Lodge. Outstanding results the first day on the water. Most in the camp are using 4" to 6" swimbait. My boat using only 5 inch pearl grubs rigged with 5/0 hooks we just found a bite all over the lake. A total of 167 fish caught today May 14th with 12.2 being the largest. Fish seemed to be just stacked around the islands in 18 foot of water. The other boat in my party caught a total of 125 fish with many fish near 10.0. Topwater bite is good early and late with some good blow ups of bigger fish., but the best pattern for us is grub fishing in the deeper water. The average size fish is the best we have seen it all year long. Today May 16th the swimbait bite has been excellent with many good fish being caught. North Canyon is holding lots of fish that can be caught using the big crankbaits BILLDANCE crankbaits. Tequlia Sunrise Worms produced fish over 10 pounds. If coming to the Lodge soon bring some Tequila Sunrise Worms, Gil Wrights group of 6 caught a total of 1201 bass
